As the Head of Supplier Management, you will be responsible for the evolution of the CDW UK group’s supplier management processes and procedures. The processes and procedures are inclusive of developing our: Procurement Strategy, Strategic Category Management, Supplier Relationship Management, Strategic Sourcing and Contract Lifecycle Management. Ensuring that they achieve the business and commercial needs of the organisation supporting our ambitious plans for growth.

Ensuring that CDW maximise commercial benefits and our supplier base delivers meaningful value to our organisation that support our customer’s needs in a risk adverse manner operationally and commercially.



What you’ll do:

  • A strong leadership across the Supplier Management team, team are clear on the vision of the organisation and the key contribution that they play to achieve that ambitious vision. This is inclusive of leading and facilitating functional meetings for the team and where required across the business
  • Establishing and being accountable for team goals, projects, objectives and defining operating processes and procedures that are fit for scale
  • Responsibility of the management and development of the individuals within the team, creating and setting their objectives in line with the function and overall business objectives
  • Building a team culture that fosters development and succession of talent, for the individuals to develop their career within the organisation. Developing mentoring and highlighting talent for the now and the future that raises the bar
  • Managing and prioritising resource availability against company and team defined objectives. Adapting the available resource to address challenges, business opportunities or projects as they arise
  • Working with CWS where required related to any co-worker engagements
  • Champion and deliver good commercial practice across your team, the wider commercial function and other business functions that are directly impacted or influenced by our supply chain
  • Oversee the ongoing management of our PSL ensuring that our supplier base delivers high supply chain performance both operationally and commercially
  • This includes the on boarding and off boarding of suppliers, supplier selection including tender selection processes, rationalisation of our supplier base, supplier adherence to SLA’s achievement against KPI’s, key obligations, deliverables, rectification plans, risk management and security to ensure that suppliers are acting responsibly
  • Responsibilities of Identification of risks within the supplier base and supply chain, through robust due diligence practices in alignment with current guidance and advancement of practices
  • Aware of the ever changing landscape related to the supply of goods and services to CDW, with a view of innovation for the function that embodies continuous improvement and enhancement of the Supplier Management function through development of process and technology
  • Aware of broader business challenges and impacts that the supply chain can influence potential solutions for
  • Managing the identification of commercial and operational risks and issues in line with CDW corporate policy and ISO requirements, ensuring that these are assessed and appropriately controlled/mitigated to deliver a compliant, stable, efficient and mature supply chain
  • Ensuring assessment of new suppliers and contractual changes are assessed, managed, delivered and documented consistent with business and compliance requirements
  • Manage the strategic supplier relationship strategy ensuring it meets the business and commercial needs of the organisation
  • Manage changes to the supplier strategy and plans, at a tactical and strategic level in order to mitigate any evolving issues or supplier risks, or to align more closely with the corporate strategy
  • Accountable for maximising value in our supplier relationships by working closely with suppliers to achieve trust, challenge unnecessary business demands, deliver robust and efficient communication and collaboration, and identify and resolve in a timely and effective way any conflicts and tensions
  • The role is responsible for ensuring the performance of service delivered by CDW’s supplier base in order to provide a commercial advantage within cost, risk and service parameters. Influencing and evolving the overall strategy within our supplier development programme and delivering it against
  • Managing commercial decisions for our product and services spend as well as other internal projects up to exec level
  • Handling any escalations or concerns from within the business, ensuring that our partners and the supporting teams fully understand any concerns at the correct level and that resolutions are put in place
  • Liaising extensively with a clear and concise interaction with all company departments up to and including senior management; notably but not limited to sales, purchasing, finance and warehouse
  • The ability to be able to support the business with complex deal positioning, both commercially and operationally
  • Deliver against any other tasks that management may request of them


What you need to succeed:


  • Commercially minded, ambitious, execution-focused with strong analytical skills
  • Proven track records in complex relationship management
  • A demonstrable track record of successful supplier management within a diverse supply base, consistent track record of high performance, capable of leading executive engagements (QBR’s, special projects) and the ability to get the best out of the people that they manage
  • Experience in same/similar role
  • Excellent commercial acumen
  • Prior people management experience is essential, the ability to lead and develop those people around them
  • Strong cross-functional team skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills with the ability to be persuasive and hold suppliers and co-workers accountable
  • The ability to understand and articulate requirements effectively in order to influence the desired output
  • Proven successful development, negotiation & management of a supplier base and creation of PSL’s
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing supplier/vendor management concepts, methodology and tools
  • Demonstrated ability in effectively building and maintaining supplier relationships
  • Experience in completing supplier evaluations, preparing RFPs and a structured review of proposals, relating to tender processes
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills in order to articulate ideas and thoughts clearly to all levels of the organization up to and including senior executive management
  • Ability to work in a high activity/fast paced environment while managing associated pressure
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to facilitate meetings and effectively lead discussions
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management and staff, within CDW and with external partners
