The role of the Project Manager (L2) within CDW Professional Services is responsible for delivering a high quality and professional project management and consultancy service to internal and external clients in order to support the winning of new business and the delivery of medium-large projects (which may include complex projects) of work to CDW’s delivery standards.

The role entails on behalf of a client and CDW, taking responsibility for ensuring that assigned projects are executed and completed adhering agreed time, quality, scope and costs parameters and that an appropriate level of governance is applied to maintain and manage risks, changes and issues.

Ultimately the project manager is responsible for the overall delivery success of the project. As such they will develop and maintain the project environment to support, maintaining focus, enthusiasm and momentum for each individual project.

Role Responsibilities
Project Delivery

  • Planning and designing the project and proactively monitoring its progress, resolving issues and initiating corrective actions (if required)
  • Defining the project's governance arrangements in line with standards and best practices to meet both CDW and client needs
  • Working with the Resource Management team to facilitate the appointment of individuals to project teams
  • Ensuring the delivery of new products or services from projects is to the appropriate level of quality, on time and within budget
  • Managing third party contributions to the project
  • Managing communications with project stakeholders (internally and externally)
  • Managing Risks, Assumption, Issues and Dependencies to the project's successful outcome
  • Reporting the progress of the project at regular intervals to the Professional Services Leadership Team and Client SRO / Project Board or other Client governance bodies as defined
  • Managing the project scope through effective change management throughout the project lifecycle, escalating and highlighting to relevant parties for resolution as necessary
  • Financial control of all project work. Pro-active management of project budgets, tracking of forecast, actuals for cost and revenue. Timely invoicing of completed effort in T&M projects and milestones for Fixed Price engagements or where appropriate
  • Working with the client business change manager & CDW Service Delivery Manager or equivalents on the transition to the new business as usual model
  • Acts as a mentor and initial escalation point for all work carried out by their team

Pre-Sales and Client Relationship Management

  • Engagement with account/sales managers & directors, consultants and clients to plan and manage the implementation and delivery of client projects
  • Uses commercial awareness and understanding of CDW’s business to provide an effective and responsive service to support CDW’s sales teams when responding to sales opportunities
  • Actively identifies additional revenue streams and business opportunities for CDW whilst working with clients
  • Coordinate pre-sales activities (technical solution, project management, quality management) to provide high quality proposals to present to clients
  • Confident presenter of business, technical and implementation solutions to internal and external clients


Delivery Excellence

  • Adhering to CDW’s delivery framework
  • Manage CDW’s delivery risks by following documented delivery, approval and acceptance processes
  • Ensuring effective quality assurance and the overall integrity of the project
  • Managing and reporting on the project's budget, expenditure and costs against delivered components and outcomes as the project progresses

Externally Facing

  • Effective management of the CDW delivery team
  • Through demonstrating credibility be the recognised as the project delivery lead on behalf of CDW to deliver transformational projects
  • Working closely with all external teams as required
  • Manages one or more teams of project coordinators and consultants/engineers for the duration of delivery ensuring consistency of operations throughout the delivery
  • Responsible for embracing and enhancing CDW’s brand, and that of Operations and Professional Services, inside and outside of CDW


Internally Facing

  • Ensures personal objectives and KPI targets are met or exceeded
  • Is supportive with the management and development of P&PM members within their team
  • Develop and coach/mentor team members to improve performance (own and others) and ensure delivery of a high quality client experience
  • Develop strong working relationships and work closely with all internal teams and stakeholders as required
  • Help build a positive understanding of project management throughout the organisation
  • Deliver project management briefings and presentations as required
  • Maintain high standards of documentation quality throughout the whole delivery lifecycle for use in future marketing, sales, case studies and implementation activities
  • Proactively support the implementation of department strategies and processes and the compliance to these within own team(s)

  • Prince 2 Practitioner/Advanced Practitioner
  • Certified Agile Project Management Practitioner


  • Management of Portfolios (MoP) Foundation

  • Six Sigma Green or Yellow Belt

Knowledge & Experience

  • Effective management, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of techniques for planning, monitoring and controlling projects
  • Good understanding of the procurement management including negotiation, contracting with and management of third parties
  • Excellent knowledge of project management methods including PRINCE2
  • Sound knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures
  • Ability to find ways of solving or pre-empting problems
  • A demonstrable track record of leading and developing teams and individuals within their responsibility
  • A demonstrable track record of managing and delivering medium to large (potentially complex) projects within a commercial environment
  • Experience of leading effective cross-functional teams
  • Skilled at building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to respond effectively to business opportunities
  • Strong client facing, commercial experience gained from working with a wide range of organisations and/or business sectors
  • Experienced at successfully working with sales teams and other technical and business resources to capture clients’ requirements, consult on solutions and present commercial propositions
  • Strong delivery knowledge of IT transformational projects
  • Strong contract management skills with clients, 3rd party providers and sub-contractors
