As a high calibre Programme and Project management leader, this role is responsible, directly and via a team of Programme Managers, Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Service Transition Managers, and other supporting roles, in successfully delivering project outcomes across a broad range of technologies and services for some of the world’s best-known brands. The Head of Project Management (a member of the Services Senior Leadership Team) will lead, develop, and retain a large and growing team, inspiring them to deliver exceptional project outcomes for our customers whilst driving the team to continuously improve and develop. The Head of Project Management will operate in a collaborative manner, believing that the key to any successful outcome, being customer facing or internal requires true collaboration, balanced flexibility, and a passion to engage and work with other departments.


What you’ll do:

  • Lead the Project Management team within the Services division, driving passion and accountability within the department, ensuring coworkers are united in a common goal which is to deliver world class customer outcomes
  • Collaborate with senior leaders within the wider Services organisation and with 3rd parties to appropriately resource projects as required (such as collaborating with the Consultancy or Field Services department)
  • Proactively engage with sales leadership, sellers and the wider business to support opportunities in various stages of flight (pre-sales through delivery), understanding any Project Management support needs before they arise, being flexible where required, and ultimately focused on ensuring our customers achieve their business outcomes
  • Accountable for accurate departmental financial forecasting, cost centre management, opportunity cost model standards, staffing, recruitment, coworker performance and coworker performance management
  • Line management and ongoing development of several highly experienced Practice Leads, collaborating with them to drive positive improvements throughout the department, listening to their feedback and addressing concerns through constructive solutions where applicable
  • Motivation of the overall Project Management department through regular personalised and relevant engagement, highlighting successful projects and how teamwork has delivered exceptional outcomes for our customers
  • Oversee the maturing of the PMO function, ensuring robust processes are in place to ensure client projects are resources, priorities and successfully delivered to consistent standards and frameworks
  • management of governance reviews relating to project documentation, project change management signoff and transitions in delivery
  • Proactively monitor project pipeline and future resource projections, ensuring this information is shared in a timely manner with the broader service’s senior leadership team and Services Architecture department for inclusion in P&L management activities
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across the wider Services organisation to contribute to the on-going development of the wider Services organisation strategy in line with business outcomes, seeking opportunities for improved integration, team building, process modification and efficiencies


What you need to succeed:


  • Hold (or have held) an industry recognised senior level Project Management Certification / Accreditation, such as but not limited to PRINCE2, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP), P3O Practitioner level, AIPMO IPMO-Expert or Six Sigma related certification
  • Extensive prior experience in Project and Programme Management roles, having delivered several successful (and ideally referenceable) projects for customers
  • Experienced in the delivery of projects that include the provision of solution or service outcomes via multiple 3rd parties
  • A demonstrable track record of leading and developing teams and individuals within their responsibility with a passion for helping others develop
  • Prior experience of working in an IT Services organisation or in the IT Channel
  • Proven track record of driving revenue growth, managing cost, and attracting, retaining, and developing talent of a professional services team
  • Expert understanding of the procurement lifecycle including negotiation, contracting and the management of third parties
  • Strong commercial experience gained from working with a wide range of organisations and/or business sectors
  • Experienced at successfully working at all levels to capture requirements, consult on solutions and present commercial propositions
  • Experience of building internal departmental brand and engaging with multiple internal business units

  • Has the ability to lead and develop teams and individuals within their responsibility and professionally motivate, mentor, coach and nurture others with a positive attitude and influence to ensure their team is highly motivated, quality-minded, and commercially focused
  • Proactively seeks out training, shadowing, mentoring and other relevant learning and development opportunities
  • Able to evaluate information quickly, identify key issues and formulate conclusions based on sound practical judgement & experience
  • Prepared for occasional travel between CDW UK & International offices as the role requires whilst maintaining a suitable home life balance
