Summary:

The Associate Network Engineer participates in the installation, configuration, deployment, testing, maintainenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of CDW’s global network and firewall components to provide a robust network communications platform. This engineer applies basic knowledge, skills, theories, and principles to aid in the delivery of secure, fault tolerant, scalable, and flexible infrastructure for CDW’s operations, supports and troubleshoots network and application problems.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Follow existing procedures to deploy and maintain robust, highly-available, high-performance network infrastructure involving multiple distributed systems (including data center, LAN/WAN/WLAN/SDWAN, Internet, Load Balancers, Firewalls, Cloud, Automation, and Network Management Platforms).
  • Asses network performance by monitoring infrastructure; troubleshooting network problems and outages; scheduling upgrades; collaborating with other network engineers.
  • Participate in network projects to support capacity growth, upgrades and new products/features, and integration.
  • Act as tier 1 support for all network issues; participate in on-call rotation. Must be available to work frequently during evenings and weekends. Up to 25% travel (domestic and international) is required.
  • Contribute in the diagnosis, isolation and resolution of network problems.
  • Uses and maintains existing Standard Operating Procedure’s and other process documentation.
  • Secure network systems by enforcing policies and monitoring access.
  • Work closely with the Network Team, receive guidance from senior team members, and collaborate with other IT staff.
  • Ensure compliance with change control processes and adherence to standards.

Education and/or Experience Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years of network experience through coursework, internship, or technical engineering role.
  • Experience with Network systems in support of business or enterprise.
  • Exposure to highly available network design for mission critical infrastructures.
  • Configuring and maintaining Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and wireless access points, as well as Internet Technologies.
  • Foundational understanding of encapsulation and the TCP/IP model.
  • Familiarity with routing protocols including BGP and OSPF.
  • Understanding of IP Address Management (including DHCP, DNS, NAT).
  • Knowledge of Layer 2 network concepts including spanning tree and VLANs.
  • Intermediate troubleshooting skills (network devices and systems level).
  • Sound organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication of straight forward information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree in a technical track.
  • 3+ years experience in a technical engineering role.
  • CCT Data Center, CCT Route Switch, or other Vendor equivalent Network Certification.
